An Instrument

Ephesians 2:10 says . . .

“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

God has given each of us abilities, talents, gifts, and resources. While some may enjoy speaking in front of groups of people, others may serving quietly “behind the scenes.” I personally love to organize, be hospitable, and serve others.

Recently, I was reminded by my Paraguayan pastor — through his message about the Israelites in Exodus 25 — that God does not seek my abilities, my talents, my gifts, nor my resources.

God used Moses as His representative before Pharaoh, but He also used Esther to save her people. Moses and Esther were used by God for specific purposes. Yet, when I read their stories, I realize there was nothing extra ordinary about these two people, other than God having chosen them to be His instruments for that time and place.

God seeks after me. He wants my heart. He wants my devotion so that I may be an instrument in His hands.

Holley Gerth states that “Whatever God chooses you to do, He will equip you. Being chosen means you will be given all you need. Being chosen means that success simply consists of obedience and God will do the rest. Being chosen means that you have a great big God as your partner every step of the way.” (Holley Gerth in You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream)

So I began asking myself these questions:

  • Am I willing to be an instrument in His hands?
  • Am I willing to use my abilities, talents, gifts, and resources to glorify God?
  • Am I willing to use my voice to speak in public?
  • Am I willing to use my written words to make an impact in the world?
  • Am I willing to serve God in ways that are outside of my “comfort zone”?

As God used Moses and Esther, God can use me if I am willing to dedicate my abilities, talents, gifts, and resources as an instrument in His hands. I may not feel fully equipped for what He asks me to do, but I can trust that He will empower me.

God, You chose me. I give You my heart and devotion.
I give you my abilities, my gifts, my talents, and my resources.
May You continue to equip me to be an instrument in Your hands.
