Dear Lonely Mom,

You are worn down, worn out, and worn thin. No one in your everyday routine fully grasps the weight that you are bearing. Perhaps you take an occasional moment to plug into the virtual world to remind yourself that you are not the only human swimming through an ocean of responsibilities. Instead, you feel discouraged after five minutes of observing the opinions, successes, and struggles of those on your news feed, and instead of feeling fed by their news, you feel empty.

You feel alone.

I see you. I have been where you are – the place of changing diapers while being half asleep, of being stuck in a house to either fight or prevent germs, of being the only one who couldn’t afford a girls night out because living on one income is hard, of being a working mom when you’d rather stay in your pajamas with your littles.

I’ve been in that dark place of grieving loss, losing friends I thought I’d have forever, and realizing that my identity was wrapped up in all of the wrong things.

I have been in those lonely places, and honestly, more often than I allow myself to believe it, I still go there from time to time.

So while you’re feeling lonely today, please hear this from someone who speaks from volumes of experience: lonely as you feel, you are never alone!

You might be the only light in your workplace, the only believer in your family, or in the middle of a crowd of like-minded peers feeling like you’re the only one who is thinking what you’re thinking, but your silent musings are not going unheard.

There is One who continually promises that He will “never leave you or forsake you.

So start believing that there is a significant difference between feeling lonely and being alone.

Lonely feelings are only that – feelings. They are unashamed liars that want to lead you down a dark path that winds far away from victory and peace. And as you stumble down the path paved by lonely feelings, you become overwhelmed by the shadows of doubt and all truth seems to be lost.

My sweet, scared, lonely friend, please remember that feelings are only feelings and truth is the Truth. If you are a child of the King, you are never, ever, under any circumstances, actually alone.

While lonely feelings scream taunting threats your way, listen closer to the consistent whispers of Truth:

I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)

When you don’t have enough to go around, and you simply feel no hope that you’re going to make it out ahead, remember to “…be content with what you have, because God has said,

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Heb. 13:5)

When you get the news that threatens to undo everything good in your world, don’t let the let despair stop you from fighting for the best thing.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

(Deut. 31:6)

Start believing that continual reminder from your Savior: you are not alone, lonely mom. It’s simply not possible.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Rom. 8:38-39)

Sincerely,

A fellow, loved mom
